Bobwhite Quail
The hunter has a choice from quail or pheasant predominate to wild Bobwhite Quail exclusive regions of where to hunt. Quail hunters will enjoy easy to walk crop edge habitat finding coveys as well as singles allowed by our temperate weather and humidity. Missouri quail hunts are along smaller grain crop fields with miles of edge along fence lines, drainages and waterway. Missouri quail hunting is for the hunter seeking quail only hunts free from pheasant. Kansas quail populations rival that of Missouri by locality and varies from season to season. Kansas quail hunting serves the hunter that prefers mixed bag pheasant and quail hunts during the same trip. Iowa quail region is limited to that of south central Iowa along the Missouri state line. Iowa quail hunts do favorably compare to Missouri with a longer quail season running to the end of January. Iowa is for the hunter that enjoys more quail than pheasant as Iowa has half the pheasant as compared to Kansas.
PheasantWild pheasant hunters will find variety to habitat and pheasant population densities. Hunters may have a mixed bag quail and pheasant hunt or focus exclusively on pheasant. Kansas pheasant hunting is the best that we have with abundant tall grass and brushy draw pheasant habitat. Our Kansas pheasant hunting is well suited for both the flushing and pointing dog hunter. Working the tall grass yields the double digit flushes with more running or staying put allowing the hunter to bypass. the brush filled draw will give the added adventure of both pheasant and quail on the same walk. Iowa pheasant hunts yield half the pheasant numbers compared to Kansas and always include quail. Iowa pheasant hunting is more suited for the pointing dog upland bird hunter due to the region wide overlapping quail population. Missouri pheasants are slim in numbers and highly localized making a Missouri pheasant hunt an incidental bonus not to be expected. Upland bird hunters that prefer more quail action find Missouri to be a good locality while dedicated pheasant hunters will find Kansas a better choice.
