That analysis illustrated in the map picture below showing the end of January 2008 assessment of both pheasant and quail by Iowa, Kansas and Missouri region of MAHA private land relative to the previous 2006 - 2007 season. This January 2008 assessment will be the basis for the 2008 - 2009 upland bird forecast.

The letters represent Q for quail and P for pheasant with green being increased during the season hunt quality comparative to the previous season and red the converse. Even though an area/bird may be labeled red it does not indicate the hunting is poor. The intent of our upland bird forecasts is to give indicator of the hunt quality to be expected across the various regions given our member/hunters previous season experience. This is a distinguishing characteristic of our upland forecast compared to state agency or magazine article forecasts. Our forecast

works for our hunters that hunted with MAHA last year. This forecast is not useful for the first time central mid-west pheasant or quail hunter.
