Coyote Hazards

Via email:

Jon & John,

"...Just thought I'd pass on that we did a combo morning coyote hunt and deer scouting trip as well as hang stands. The one I took a picture of was typical of the hunt. Mostly young ones that were easy to call in. This one was at 150+ yards (eye range estimate as there is no time for lazar range finders when coyote hunting in spite of what some magazine articles say). He was up wind with a variable wind of 5 to 10+ mph and still heard the three position safety move from the middle to the fire position. Absolutely amazing what these animals can hear. He was with another that did not stick around after his buddy went down.

What was not typical was that every one of the coyotes we shot had mange (photo right). After this one we stopped as we didn't want to handle them, the hides were no good and besides we had deer season to set up for. I pass these pictures on as it appears this year is not going to be a year to find any good coyotes.

Thanks, Gary P..."

Gary also sent in his deer pictures we posted to that section as well as the rest of the email message.
