Dean a Pheasant and Quail Hunter

From Nebraska

First upland bird hunting season.

Dear John,

I had a great time bird hunting during my first year as a member of MAHA. The habitat on your properties is excellent and resulted in some very productive days of pheasant and quail hunting.

My first hunt of the season on MAHA land was in Kansas and produced a limit of roosters shot off point. My last day of hunting for the season on MAHA land was during the last week of January in Kansas and also produced a limit of roosters shot off point.

Although I was shut out one day, my most common day, regardless of which state I hunted was to shoot a limit of roosters and find 2 to 3 coveys of quail. The most coveys of quail I found in a day was 6, and that was hunting fairly close to Kansas City. The most pheasant I saw in a day was a bunch, maybe 200 or so during my trip to [deleted] county.

Having hunted pheasant for many years and having had limited opportunities to shoot triples on roosters throughout those years, I was impressed that I was able to shoot triples twice on MAHA land this year. I was also impressed with the number of roosters I was able to shoot off tight points all year.

I am looking forward to the spring turkey season and the fall archery season for deer. Maybe I can get lucky and arrow one of those big deer I kicked up bird hunting.

Hunting is fun. Hopefully, I will have many more fun days as a member of MAHA through the years.

Thanks, Dean
