From IowaHi John,
The association was really great; it allowed non-stressful hunting where we had bird opportunities on all hunts on what I feel are quality farms. What was even better was that after last year's total bust of a season, we had quail contact on every hunt this year, the least was 1 covey in a day with the best 5 coveys in 5 hours. Even when we did not see a lot of pheasants I felt it was more the day than the farm. We usually bagged roosters with several 2-man limit hunts. The area is 1-2 seasons from a full rebound, if you keep the farms you have in the pool, it will be a bright future. I was really impressed with the farms in the inventory and I only scouted/hunted a limited area. Leaves me very excited for next year. I am looking forward to reviewing as many farms as possible this weekend and may try to hunt a little bit on a lot of them to get a flavor. I am very pleased with the ethic involved and with the several groups of fellow members that I have ran into in the field. No issues or selfishness, just guys like me who like bird dogs and hunting. Thanks for a great year and look forward to visiting with you a little tomorrow or Thursday, Don Laster
Learning the ropes at 9 with his new Mossberg 20. Levi Laster prepares to take his first pointed quail. New member this year. Levi is having a blast and is learning safety and ethics first. His dad Don is more proud of that then the excellent shooting he has done.
"Last day of the pheasant season. Besides these birds also moved several roaring coveys and saw many hens. All birds shot over point, picked up a few quail but with heavy snow went light on them. Great day and dog work. Nice to have the birds on a modest comeback. Thanks for a great organization - I think my son in law and new grand sons are going to consider joining. Best Wishes Don" |
