| Having an edge running dog rather than a circle running dog well suited to the field trial viewing gallery makes the difference between finding more or less coveys. A dog that runs too deep into the wooded areas or too far out in the crop fields will waste time not focused on the narrow band of edge cover where most quail coveys will be found.
This wooded creek bottom while cutting through the crop field is a good hunt and it is more than a 100 yards wide. The quail will be found on the low to the ground cover, not within the open wooded area. This is also the less sunny north side of the edge and has less ground cover than the better south side. |
