| Pheasant and QuailMAHA Kansas upland bird hunting is for the mixed bag of Ringneck Pheasant and Bobwhite Quail more so than our Iowa or Missouri upland bird hunting lease land. Our Kansas wild bird hunts are also on the widest variety of habitat of our three state region allowing for that added extra bit of changing scenery. Kansas is unique as it also includes the Prairie Chicken, rarely seen and often missed for looking too much like a hen pheasant. Seeing many Prairie Chickens on a hunt and not bagging any is possible. While Kansas does have the Prairie Chicken they do not exist in any predictable pattern to allow for reasonably successful hunts. Current agricultural practices support far more pheasant and quail than it does open ground with low cover prairie grouse habitat. So much so this is true that while some guides may offer Prairie Chicken hunts we do not manage for them at all.
HabitatKansas habitat is the tall prairie grass for pheasant and the crop field edge for quail. Other upland bird habitat includes the brush filled draw for both quail and pheasant and the wooded creek bottom for quail. The upland hunter may on the same trip cover the crop edge field, brushy draw and large prairie grass fields and may also do so on the same day. Upland bird hunting concentrating on grass or crop fields will predetermine the predominate bird. In the picture below the mixed bag came from crop edge habitat and wooded creek bottoms and one brush filled draw. It is common to find both pheasant and quail in the same area. It is also typical there will be more of one and less of the other again dependent on the habitat type.
WildFor those wanting to enjoy the day in the field where the quality of dog work is the primary concern and a bag limit always possible, but not guaranteed continue on thorough this website to discover the full extent of the experience we offer. That experience is 100% natural game on existing habitat we lease due to it being in the right region of the state with a history of natural production and of the habitat quality that will hold ringnecks and bobwhites throughout the year. We are able to provide this as we are not limited to the driving distance around a single lodge or hunting club. We make the entire state available to us and provide a local motel lodging listing for our hunters. MAHA HuntingAll the do it yourself upland bird hunter must do is that which all can do for themselves and that is travel out our way, pack a lunch, bring a dog and hunt at the hunter's pace as much as he can for every day he has available. In our approach to self guided hunts long before anyone leaves home he will know where he will hunt and where he will lodge. There is not any guesswork. We provide the private land, recommendations where to hunt and a lodging listing in time to set all travel requirements. The hunter does the rest on his own and without competition.
This map shows the total Kansas wild upland bird hunting acreage available listing county name and acreage within that county under lease. All may hunt their choice or our recommendation based on the upland bird of choice and habitat preference.
