Northwest Kansas Pheasant Habitat
Not all grass is equal. After some time hunting all grass the pheasant hunter soon learns what is good and bad grass.
The picture is one of many brushy draws surrounded by milo fields that hold both pheasant and quail. These draws can run for a full mile and often have several branches not visible from the road.
An advantage these draws have is their ability to hold a covey after flush for additional singles action. The quail typically flush up and down the length of the draw rather than out to the field. The smart hunter will attempt to flush them off point to encourage this.

One walk through one field on one warm day and all were tired.
Our photos are not posed for advertising effect. They are taken by the hunter in the field under whatever conditions there may be at hand. In the case of these four hunters on a day when the sun was hot and the gusting winds cold.
