Northwest Missouri Quail Habitat

Missouri has miles upon miles of great quail edge habitat.

For the non-resident hunter he gains from our Association a friendly point of contact in a hunting locality that gains his access to private land and lodging in one easy package.

This removes any doubt on whether the hunter will be hunting and how he will lodge.

North Central Missouri Quail

Missouri as a whole offers better quail hunting than Kansas. In Missouri the quail habitat is more open allowing more eyes on the dog. In Kansas the prairie grasses have a tendency of hiding the dog. If hunting for a limit then both states are good hunting. If hunting for great dog work stick to Missouri so as to be more likely to see that great dog working quail.

Disease. We are not plagued by "Blackhead" as are the quail in Arkansas, Virginia and Alabama. Our birds are healthy and prove it every time the coveys break into flight.

Fire ants do not range this far north and have not affected the quail as they have in Texas.

Weather has the most effect on quail populations in Kansas and Missouri. Specifically the amount of rain fall during the May - June hatch and brooding period. Above average rains during this period mean lower bird populations. Less than average rains and the converse is true. Weather is also our great advantage. Our milder winters, low snow fall and dryer climate make the ideal pheasant and quail weather conditions allowing for a longer season than northern states experience. We have great hunting right through the end of January, long after the northern states have froze out.

Quail hunting until the bird dogs are worn out. Hunting lease land that's productive through out the season.
