During Season Bobwhite Quail Habitat

Wood lot edge.

Points on the edge usually mean shot opportunity. Points in the woods more frequently means missed shots.

Some new to the central mid-west quail hunters are concerned about knowing property boundaries. The fence line at left is easily recognized as the farm boundary. It is hard to get lost in our open country just as it is hard to trespass unintentionally.

Big woods grouse hunters can leave their GPS and compass at home. Another comment from northern states grouse hunters is the increased enjoyment of eyes on dog work and the ability to enjoy long range vistas. Southeast quail hunters further like getting away from the "piney" woods. Southwest bird hunters always comment how being free of sand burs, heat, dry conditions, dust, snakes and cactus is a relief.

Compare that to how locals forget they are spoiled and complain about 70 degree early season and 20 degree late season weather being the "toughest" conditions experienced. Mud, however, all agree makes those long waking days harder with 5 pounds weight on each foot.
