Good and Bad Grass Continued

This is locally known as Buffalo Grass and is a first year quail habitat development on one of your Association staff's personal farm. Its value is that it is high enough to protect against aerial predation, strong enough to remain standing year round and ground level thin enough for all ground dwelling birds to nest, brood chicks and loaf through the winter.

The same 5 foot rule shown earlier in the Fescue picture.

Plenty of movement space at the base of this high grass for both adult quail and brooding hatchlings with enough lower level stem leaf to allow for nesting. This one grass allows for spring time nesting, brooding, summer loafing and winter escape cover. Spring/summer Insects are easily found during brooding and the near by crop field for winter waste grain food.

Two fields to select from. One will allow for a good nature walk and the other holds the promise of a covey rise.
